Our Six Core Needs

Have you ever come out of a meeting or interaction with someone and said to yourself, “Why did I say/do that? What was I thinking?” Well here’s a tool you can use to answer that question simply and accurately. The well known super-coach, Anthony Robbins, summarises the way we make choices and the values we live by into what he calls, six “core needs”.

They are:

  1. Certainty… security, comfort.
  2. Variety… uncertainty.
  3. Significance… recognition.
  4. Connectedness… love and belonging.
  5. Growth… personal growth.
  6. Contribution… something for others.

Our personal weighting of these needs affects decisions we make every day, so being aware of them is a constructive step to learning why you do things, and from there, how to do things differently.
